Shion No Oh: しおんの王 - Expect the Unexpected

What can I say about this anime. Like the title of the post says expect the unexpected. I was attracted to this anime because the protagonist, Yasuoka Shion was cute with lovely big eyes. Then, when i decided to stream it online it had a really cool opening song - lady love by Rize. Click play & watch the trailer below^_^

The main character, Shion is 13 and here is the thing she is like a professional shouji player who is MUTE. Yes, you heard me a main character that doesn't speak but instead writes really cute notes on her notebook!!!! This anime has shouji as a main focus and I had never heard of Shouji until i watched this anime BUT i was intrigued. It's a game which focuses on strategy but this anime doesn't solely concentrate on shouji. It catches your interest by slowly unravelling a murder mystery explaining how Shion lost her voice and eventually leads to the capture of the person who murdered her parents when she was just 5 years old.

All I can say is I totally enjoyed all 22 episodes of this anime and mainly because i didn't expect it to be impressive and that is the beauty of this anime. This anime is also known as The Flowers of Hard Blood and the cuteness of Shion and the suspense that builds up in this anime makes for a great contrast. The story is good, the characters are great and the pace is cool and yet there is an added bonus in that both the opening and ending theme are totally awesome songs.
